How to use the TikTok Hashtag Generator
- Describe the video. Type the subject in a few words, such as "beginner salsa steps" or "air fryer dinner". The tool matches a curated niche and turns your words into tags.
- Check the niche. If the matched niche is wrong, pick one from the list. Shuffle to see a different selection from the same niche.
- Fit it into the caption. Paste your caption into the caption box. The recommended set is added on its own line and the meter shows the total against 2,200 UTF-16 units.
- Copy and post. Copy the caption with hashtags, or just the set, and add it when you upload or schedule the video.
TikTok hashtags, without the guesswork claims
What the sets contain
The recommended set starts with the phrase you typed joined into one tag, then two niche tags, one broad tag and your branded tag if you gave a name. The groups below it let you swap any of them. Broad tags are the ones shared by many niches, so one is plenty.
TikTok search reads captions as well as hashtags, so a caption that says what the video shows in plain words does a similar job. Use hashtags for the topic words that do not fit naturally in the sentence.
Counting and sources
The 2,200 limit and the UTF-16 counting unit are from the TikTok Content Posting API reference, the same source the TikTok Caption Checker on this site uses. The description of how recommendations use hashtags is from TikTok's own explanation of its For You feed. The tag lists are editorial and carry no reach or volume figures.
Frequently asked questions
How many hashtags should I use on TikTok?
TikTok does not publish a hashtag count limit or an official ideal number. Hashtags count toward the caption length, and a caption full of tags is harder to read. This tool suggests 3 to 5 as a working default and offers up to 10 to choose from, but that is our default, not a TikTok rule.
Do hashtags like #fyp get more views?
There is no public evidence from TikTok that generic tags such as #fyp or #foryou change distribution, so this tool does not add them. TikTok describes recommendations as based on how people interact with videos and on video information such as captions, sounds and hashtags. Tags that describe the video are the safer choice.
How long can a TikTok caption be with hashtags?
A video caption can be up to 2,200 characters counted in UTF-16 units, per the TikTok Content Posting API reference checked October 2026. Hashtags are part of that count. Most letters count as one unit and most emoji as two, which is why the meter here counts the same way.
Where do the hashtags come from?
From a curated list built into the tool, covering more than 40 niches with about 30 commonly used tags each, plus tags built from your own words. Nothing is fetched online, and the tool has no view or volume data. Tap a tag in the TikTok app to see what is posted under it before you use it.
