Add TimeToPost to ChatGPT

ChatGPT is where a lot of post ideas start. With the TimeToPost server connected, the idea can turn into a queued draft for Instagram, X, TikTok, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, Nostr, Pixelfed, Telegram, Tumblr, WordPress, Ghost, DEV, Whop, Listmonk, and Buttondown without you copying text between tabs, and you still decide what goes live.

What you need

A TimeToPost account, and a ChatGPT surface that lets you add a remote MCP server of your own. Availability of custom servers depends on your ChatGPT plan and workspace settings; if the option is missing, an admin may have it switched off.

Name     TimeToPost
URL      https://api.timetopost.co/mcp
Auth     OAuth

Steps

  1. Open ChatGPT Plugins at chatgpt.com/plugins, select the plus button and choose Add custom MCP server.
  2. Fill in the fields above and accept the risk warning (“I understand and want to continue”).
  3. Select Create as a plugin. ChatGPT sends you to TimeToPost: enter your email, type the 6-digit code, click Approve access.
  4. Start a new chat and check the TimeToPost tools are available.

Sign-in goes through the discovery documents at api.timetopost.co/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource and oauth-authorization-server, which is what lets a client register itself.

Talking to it

Be explicit about the tool when the stakes are a public post. Three wordings that behave differently:

Safe

“Draft two posts from this outline with create_drafts, then show me list_approvals.”

Planning only

“Using get_optimal_times, which slots are strongest for X this week?”

Direct

“Schedule this for 9:00 tomorrow with schedule_post.” This one skips the review queue.

Where approval happens

Drafts from create_drafts sit in the review queue as pending. You can read the queue from the chat with list_approvals, or open the TimeToPost dashboard. Saying yes in chat makes ChatGPT call approve_draft, which schedules the post at the draft’s hint (your best time, or an explicit time you give); reject_draft discards it.

If you would rather ChatGPT never touch the queue, connect the planning endpoint from the FAQ instead. It lists drafts and approvals but has no approve or reject tool at all.

Questions people ask

Which URL do I paste?

https://api.timetopost.co/mcp. It is a Streamable HTTP MCP server.

Does ChatGPT use an API key or OAuth with TimeToPost?

OAuth. The server publishes standard discovery documents and accepts dynamic client registration with PKCE, so ChatGPT can register itself and send you to a TimeToPost sign-in page. You never paste a token.

Can I give ChatGPT read-only access?

Yes, through a second endpoint. https://api.timetopost.co/mcp/planning exposes nine read tools: whoami, list_integrations, list_posts, get_post, get_engagement_summary, get_optimal_times, list_drafts, list_approvals and best_time_teaser. It cannot create drafts, schedule or publish.

Will it post straight from a chat?

Only if you ask it to use a tool that publishes. Say "file these as drafts" and it uses create_drafts, which always waits for approval. A schedule_post call with a time is a direct schedule, so name the tool you want.

Where do I find the setting?

The current OpenAI docs send you to ChatGPT Plugins (chatgpt.com/plugins), then the plus button and Add custom MCP server. OpenAI renames these screens often and availability depends on your plan and workspace policy, so if yours differs, look for the custom MCP server option under plugins or connectors.
