Social Media Text Formatter

Add bold, italic and monospace emphasis, bullets and numbered lists to a post for LinkedIn, X, Instagram, Threads and more. Copy it as plain Unicode text. Includes an honest accessibility note and a length check per network.

Style (selection or whole text)

Lists and line breaks

Accessibility note: styled letters are separate Unicode symbols, not fonts. Screen readers may read them one letter at a time, and search or translation can miss them. Use styling for a few emphasis words, not whole paragraphs.

Length by network

  • X post0 / 280
  • Bluesky post0 / 300
  • Threads post0 / 500
  • Mastodon post (default server)0 / 500
  • Instagram caption0 / 2,200
  • TikTok caption0 / 2,200

X counts each styled letter as 2 characters, so a bold X post fits about half as many letters. Other networks here count each symbol as 1.

Schedule the formatted post

Paste it into TimeToPost, pick the networks and a time, and it publishes for you through the approval queue.

How to use the Social Media Text Formatter

  1. Write or paste your post. Type in the box. Everything stays in your browser.
  2. Select words and pick a style. Select a few words and press Bold, Italic, Bold italic or Monospace. With nothing selected the style applies to the whole text.
  3. Add lists and tidy breaks. Use Bullets, Numbered and Tidy line breaks to structure the post.
  4. Check length and copy. Watch the per network count, then press Copy text and paste it where you publish.

How the text formatter works

Method

Each letter from A to Z and a to z is moved by a fixed offset into one of four Unicode blocks: sans-serif bold, sans-serif italic, sans-serif bold italic and monospace. Digits are converted for bold and monospace. Every other character, including accents, emoji and punctuation, passes through unchanged.

Back to plain reverses the mapping, so you can restyle text or remove styling you added by mistake.

When not to use it

Do not style names, links, hashtags or anything people may search for or copy into other tools, because the styled version is different text. Do not style whole paragraphs. Prefer short headings and key phrases, and put the important information in plain text as well.

Length rules used

The length panel uses the same limits as the Social Media Character Counter. X is weighted so that styled letters count as 2. Other networks count one per symbol. Limits can change, so confirm in the app before you publish a post that is close to the edge.

Frequently asked questions

How does bold text work if the networks have no bold button?

The tool swaps normal letters for look-alike letters from the Unicode Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block. They are characters, not formatting, so they paste into any text box that accepts Unicode.

Can screen readers read styled text?

Often badly. Many screen readers read these symbols one at a time or by their long Unicode names, and search, translation and copy-paste into other tools can fail. Keep styling to a few emphasis words and keep the rest plain.

Why do styled letters use more of my X limit?

X counts characters outside its basic Latin ranges as 2, and these symbols fall outside them. The length panel applies that rule for X and counts one per symbol elsewhere.

Does it work on LinkedIn, X, Instagram and Threads?

These networks accept Unicode text in posts and captions, so the characters paste in. How they look depends on the font each app and device uses, and a few letters may render as empty boxes on very old systems.

Can I make italic or bold digits?

Bold and monospace include digits. The italic and bold italic sets in Unicode have no digits, so numbers stay as normal digits in those styles.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser and the text is never sent to a server.
