How to use the Instagram Line Break Generator
- Paste the caption. Write or paste your caption with blank lines between paragraphs, the way you want it to look.
- Choose a filler. The default is an invisible character, U+2800. You can pick a different blank character or a visible dot instead.
- Copy the result. The output fills every blank line and removes spaces at the end of lines. Copy it with the button so the invisible characters come along.
- Paste into Instagram. Paste into the caption box and check the preview before you share. Use "Remove fillers" to turn it back into plain text for editing.
What the generator changes, exactly
The changes
Windows line endings become plain line breaks. Spaces and tabs at the end of each line are removed. Blank lines at the very start and end are dropped. Every remaining empty line gets one filler character. Optionally, several blank lines in a row are collapsed into one. Nothing else in your text is touched, including emoji and leading spaces.
Honest limits
Whether Instagram keeps a blank line is app behaviour, not a documented rule, and it has changed over time. The invisible character approach is widely used because a line with a character in it is not empty, but no tool can guarantee how a future app version displays a caption. Always check the preview before sharing.
The blank characters are real Unicode characters. Search and screen readers see them, which is why the visible dot option exists.
Frequently asked questions
Why does Instagram remove my line breaks?
Instagram can drop empty lines, and lines that contain only spaces, when a caption is pasted or saved, so paragraphs run together. A space at the end of a line, just before the break, is another common cause. Instagram does not document this, and the behaviour has varied between app versions.
How does this tool keep the blank lines?
It puts one invisible character, U+2800 (braille pattern blank), on every empty line. The line is then not technically empty, so it is kept, but it still looks blank. It also removes spaces at the ends of lines. That is all it does; there is no trick beyond that.
Is the invisible character bad for accessibility?
It can be noticeable. Some screen readers announce U+2800 as "blank" or "braille blank", others skip it. If many of your followers use screen readers, choose the visible dot instead, or use fewer blank lines. The tool lets you switch with one click.
Do the invisible characters count toward the 2,200 limit?
Yes. Each filler is one character in the 2,200 character caption limit from the Instagram Graph API documentation. The counter below the result includes them.
Does this work for comments and bios?
People use the same approach in comments, but this tool has only been designed around captions, so check the result. Bios behave differently and are limited to 150 characters, so each filler costs more there. Check the Bio Length Checker for bios.
