Social Media Scheduling for AI Agents
An AI agent can schedule and publish your social media posts if it can call a tool that does it. TimeToPost provides that tool as an MCP server. The agent writes the post, asks TimeToPost for your best posting time, and schedules it on the accounts you have connected.
How an agent connects
MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is the open standard that lets an assistant call external tools. The TimeToPost server is hosted at https://api.timetopost.co/mcp and speaks Streamable HTTP. There is nothing to install and no API key to paste.
- Connect your social accounts once in the TimeToPost dashboard.
- Add the server URL to your assistant, using the config below or its custom connector screen.
- On first use a browser window opens. Sign in with your email, type the 6-digit code we send, and approve access.
- Ask for what you want, for example: “Schedule these three captions on X at my best times this week.”

"timetopost": { "url": "https://api.timetopost.co/mcp" }

}Any MCP-capable coding agent or assistant can add the server with its own mcp add command (example above). Full setup for each client is on the MCP page.
What an agent can do
- Read your connected accounts and their connection health (list_integrations).
- Read best posting times computed from your own engagement history (get_optimal_times).
- Draft a post, or schedule it at a time you choose (schedule_post).
- Publish an existing post right away (publish_post), or publish an X thread (publish_thread).
- File drafts that wait in your approval queue (create_drafts, list_approvals, approve_draft, reject_draft).
- Read engagement and per-post metrics, and check scheduler health (get_engagement_summary, get_post_metrics, scheduler_status).
- Delete a scheduled post before it fires.
What an agent cannot do
- Post to a network TimeToPost does not publish to yet. Live networks are X, Bluesky, Mastodon, Pixelfed, Telegram channels, Tumblr blogs, WordPress sites, Ghost publications, DEV articles, Whop forums, and Buttondown newsletters.
- Do more than your own account can. Every call carries your token, so sign-in, organization scope, plan limits and validation are enforced exactly as if you clicked the button.
- Skip your approval step for drafts filed with create_drafts.
- Connect a new social account for you. You connect each account once in the dashboard, and posts publish from it under your name.
Keeping a human in the loop
The safest pattern is to have the agent file drafts instead of scheduling directly. Drafts wait in one approval queue, where you approve, edit or reject each one on your phone or desktop. Once you trust a workflow, you can let the agent schedule on its own. If you are unsure which tool a request will use, tell the agent which one you want.
Cost
The MCP server is included with every plan, so there is no separate charge for agent access. Plans start at $12/mo for Starter, with Pro at $49.99/mo and Growth at $99/mo. Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial. See pricing for what each plan includes.
Questions
- Can an AI assistant schedule social media posts?
- Yes, when the assistant supports MCP. Add https://api.timetopost.co/mcp as a custom MCP server or connector, sign in once in your browser, and the assistant can draft, schedule and publish posts from your connected accounts.
- Is there a social media MCP server I can use without API keys?
- Yes. The TimeToPost MCP server is hosted, uses browser sign-in, and needs no API key. It exposes 73 tools and is included with every plan, starting at $12/mo.
- Can an agent post without my approval?
- Only if you ask it to. Drafts filed with create_drafts always wait for your approval. A direct schedule_post or publish_post call goes out on its own, so name the tool you want, or ask the agent to file drafts.
